About Grass Fed Beef In The News

Why should my family choose 100% grass fed beef?

Most people are surprised to learn that grass fed beef has about the same fat content as skinless chicken, plus a number of unique health benefits:

  • No added hormones and no antibiotics
  • Low in overall fat and a high concentration of "good fat"
  • High in beta-carotene, vitamin E, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and omega-3 fatty acids
  • Grass fed beef contains 2,500 times less E coli causing bacteria than grain fed beef
  • Choosing grass fed beef virtually eliminates the possibility of mad cow disease (a disease purportedly spread through the cattle’s consumption of infected animal byproducts, found in some types of feed

Williamson Farms Grass Feed Beef is tender, juicy, natural beef that has a delightfully wholesome flavor.

We spent years researching, experimenting, and perfecting the diet of our grass fed cattle in order to deliver a consistently high quality taste and tenderness. The unique flavor has been described as wholesome and natural, reflecting the "terroir" of the soil, water, and grass on which it’s grown. Old-timers say grass fed beef has a real, natural flavor, like homegrown beef from their youth.

It tastes good and is good for you, too.

Not only does grass fed beef taste good, research has shown it possesses some unique nutritional benefits, especially when compared to conventionally-raised, grain-fed beef. You may recall omega-3 fatty acids being declared as "good fat" for humans, more technically, they are deemed essential fatty acids, meaning that the body requires them, but cannot convert them from other fats or oils. Eating a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids is recommended to reduce high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. In grass fed beef, omega-3 fats comprise 7% of the total fat content as compared to only 1% in grain fed beef.

The presence of a little known, but very important essential fatty acid, called conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, is another unique nutritional benefit of grass fed animals. Research has shown that CLA works to prevent and actually fight some forms of cancer, particularly breast cancer.

What’s the difference between grass fed, natural, and organic beef?

Williamson Farms beef is both natural and 100% grass fed, and is similar to organic because it is raised on open pasture without antibiotics or hormones. Williamson Farms also guarantees their animals are never fed grain or animal byproducts.

Grass fed beef is defined by the American Grass Fed Association as beef from cattle that have eaten nothing but their mother’s milk and fresh grasses or grass-type hay from birth to harvest.

Natural meat is defined by the USDA as not containing any artificial flavoring, color ingredients, chemical preservatives, or artificial or synthetic ingredients, and does not undergo any processing that fundamentally alters the raw product.

Organic beef is fed organic feed (which may include grain) that does not contain any animal byproducts or growth hormones. Organic animals are not given antibiotics, must have access to the outdoors, and producers must certify that no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used on farm land for at least three years prior to certification.
